Hello,
I’m trying to set up a match using the generic Hit Factor match type. I need to customize the penalty points for various procedural violations. It appears that all I am allowed to do is just add penalties to a score at 10 points a pop. This does not help the shooters because all he sees is x number of penalties and he doesn’t know what for. Is there a way I can create custom penalty categories with individual point values.
I’ve seen some threads that are several years old that ask similar questions, but the answer is always it will be available in a future release. I would think by now it would have been fixed.

@League_Coordinator currently we don’t have support in the apps for editing that information.
If you are tech-savvy you can manually edit a match export file and create your own custom match template. However that is not something we officially support or can assist you with.
The Hit Factor scoring is very restricted regarding penalties and it is not currently possible to use penalty value different than NS value defined for a given Power Factor.
You could use the “Comstock2” scoring and create your own custom targets with NS value multiplier. So, you can have x2, x3, etc NS values for specific targets. But that won’t change the penalty value.
I’ve been to the comstock2 Modify Targets page but don’t understand what it any of the numbers mean. Also don’t understand what the “Field” parameter does. I’ve tried to modify field values, but can’t see any effect the have on the target scores. For example, Paperx2 shows a value of 2.0 for field A. Does that mean each hit is 10 points instead of 5? If so, can a put a value of 0.50 on M so a miss is only 5 points?
You say I can “manually edit a match export file”. What tool do I use to edit the export file? I followed your “custom match template” link, but all it says is to create a match and edit some parameters and save it as a template. But that won’t help me with penalty values because I have to start with a PS match type, none of which let me modify penalty values.
The Comstock2 is basically the same Comstock scoring, but with additional options to customize target fields (really the scoring zones) to support the needs of several shooting sports, including IPSC Shotgun, Rifle, USPSA Multigun and even PCSL.
It allows to define targets without some of fields (e.g. IPSC A4 target with only ACM zones, clay target with only AM zones, etc). For Hit Factor matches the only recognized target fields are A, B, C, D, M, NS, NPM.
It also allows to specify additional multiplier value for a given target field, to support difficult targets that have x2, x3, x4, etc value. Currently the fractional multiplier values are NOT supported. The apps allow you to enter values like 0.5 or 1.5, but you are going to get some weird results if you use them in a match.
Admittedly the current “Modify Targets” screen in a Hit Factor match allows multiple ways to shoot yourself in the foot. Mainly because Hit Factor match type historically is much more restricted than other types that are using custom targets (e.g. NRA Action, Bullseye, ProAm, etc.)
