We have been using Fire HD tablets as our scoring devices and our “master” and in general, they work well and were affordable. We have had one primary issue with them that we’ve been unable to pinpoint. Specifically, in the Device Sync function, some of our devices can find their peers on the network and others often cannot find any and rarely can discover all devices. Even if they cannot discover the devices, usually I can sync with the other devices if I know their sync code. In doing some PS2 testing today as the 2025 season is about to start, I tried again to narrow this problem down. Of our 12 devices, 8 are Fire HD 8 (10th generation), 2 are Fire HD 8 (12th generation), and the two we use as master devices are Fire HD 8 (11th generation). For whatever reason, all of the Gen 10 and 12 devices can find all of their online peers (seems like always so far) but the Gen 11 devices rarely can find any of their online peers. Has anyone else seen this or does anyone have recommendations on what changes we could try? I assume this is some hardware/firmware networking problem and not an issue in PS (we had similar behavior with PS1). None of this btw is on a guest network…client isolation is not on.
@Kevin_Collins assuming you are running the latest app version and the same app version on all devices, could you check the following:
-
verify that location services are turned on on these devices and that location permission is granted to the app on a given device
-
do you see the wifi network name at the bottom right corner in the app or it shows “unknown”?
-
on your gen11 device. Go to the sync screen and tap and hold the “Pull” button to see the network info (on the right of the manual sync code entry field). Use “copy” action on the popup to copy network info and save into an email.
Do the same on your gen12 or gen10 device.
Then post these text here or email to support@practiscore.com
@euxx the pads all have the same (latest) version of PS2 and they have the latest version of code for their gen–all pads of the same gen have the same code level.
All have location services turned on and location permission are on for PS2 (and PS1 for that matter).
Network SSID is correctly reflected in the lower right on all devices.
Here are the network info results from each of the pads:

@Kevin_Collins thanks… that’s odd. From the app point of view gen10 and gen11 should behave the same.
Just for the giggles… Have you tried to put them all on a mobile phone wifi hotspot and see if they could find each other there?
@euxx Good question…interesting results. I hooked them to my ios personal hotspot and they all (I only have 4 right now–2 Gen 11, 1 Gen 10, 1 Gen12) immediately saw the other 3. So that says it’s something in the club’s router…?
Anything in particular I should look for in your view? It isn’t like they never work–they rarely work…which may make it more problematic to debug. I think maybe first things first is to reboot the router and re-test.
@Kevin_Collins I’d say either something in the club router configuration or something between device wifi hardware/software and router wifi hardware/software.
I can’t find information about device wifi hardware between these device models. So, you may need to find someone local who can look at the network setup.
Also could be because of too many devices are trying to connect to your wifi hostspot. Then you won’t see same issue on mobile hotspot wifi (not that many devices). But that is also part of the network setup…
